The Jeep Liberty retains its 210-hp, 3.7-liter V6 engine, mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, a package capable of towing up to 3500 pounds. There are two models, the Sport and Limited, and they're both available in rear-wheel or 4-wheel drive. Two 4-wheel drive systems are also available: the standard, part-time Command-Trac or the available full-time Selec-Trac II.
All Liberty models have a raft of safety systems on board like electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, traction control, brake assist and electronic roll mitigation. Especially important for a small SUV that's going off road are the hill descent control and hill start assist. With the Liberty's high ground clearance, these aides will likely get at least a few drivers out of difficult situations. The Sport has a tire pressure monitoring warning system as standard equipment, while the Limited gets a more advanced TPMS display. The Limited has available ParkSense parking assist, too, for days spent in town rather than off-road.
The Sport interior uses stain-resistant cloth for the seats, while the Limited gets an upgrade to standard heated leather seats with memory function and a 6-way power driver's seat. Both models have a 60/40 folding rear seat and a folding passenger seat for addition cargo space. All models can be had with the expansive Sky Slider roof, with the largest opening of any sunroof in its class.
Air conditioning is standard on the Sport, as is a 6-speaker audio system with a jack for mobile devices and one year of Sirius Satellite Radio. The Limited has automatic climate control with air filtering and an 8-speaker system with subwoofer, which can be controlled from the steering wheel. The Limited sound system can be upgraded to include Sirius Traffic and a 30GB hard drive.
